Chittagong--(UNB) – A mobile court yesterday fined 8 trawlers and cargo vessels for tax evasion and environment pollution in the Chittagong seaport.

The court collected Tk 2.75 lakh as fines from the vessels.

Of the total, 4 trawlers and two cargo vessels were fined Tk 2 lakh for tax evasion while 2 other vessels Tk 75,000 for dumping chemical waste in the sea.

The mobile court, headed by magistrate Munir Chowdhury, took the action while visiting Sadarghat, Bridgeghat and Banglabazar jetties of the port.

In last three months, 9 mobile courts have collected a total of Tk 18 lakh as fines from different vessels in the port on various charges, port sources said.
